Eight Sages: Pre-Build 3

Thoughs...

I'm thinking along the lines of Jim "Xaa" Farris' Oerth series. Mainly, the concept of several related animal species that became one sentient species. Defintly by the will of the Sages, of course. This helps some in determining fauna, as all I need to do is fill in the missing holes in the ecosystem and choose alternatives for other things.

Among the things that makes the races unique is their Devotions, a minor inborn talent inherent to each. Two of them I can defintly keep are the ones for the Dragon-kin and the Horse-kin (Heaven and Mountain, respectively.) I want to examine some writeups for racial packages for furry Hero games, to get an idea of what I want, but most would get at least a 1/2d6 HTH to simulate their reduced natural claws/teeth/hooves.

I've been thinking outside the scope of the standard races. For example, the Tiger-kin is actually a part of a more wide-spread species--they are merely the Tetsuko Clan branch, and thus exists at least three other clans--Leopards, Pumas, and Lions. Encouraging such diversity would give ideas on civilizations beyond the borders of the Empire--that might be a good project to consider after the book ships. (Oh, and cats in general can interbreed amongst themselves. It gives me a plausible explaination for White Tiger-kin. Will make suggestions for the rest.)

Further thinking, I think I should 'restrict' inter-racial breeding only among the mortals. I want to encourage new and wildly diverse Celestials/Demons for players to create, like Kirin and Phoenix. Makes for great sources of powers if they choose to.

Hrmmm... I have a couple of other stuff that I want to do, but they're not related and not important.
